#VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi Sieck: "Conservative minority is working overtime to demonize prochoice champions"
NEW YORK—National prochoice voting project #VOTEPROCHOICE co-founder Heidi Sieck today released the following statement:
“The conservative antichoice minority is working overtime to demonize and isolate prochoice champions like Virginia House of Delegates Member Kathy Tran, a #VOTEPROCHOICE-endorsed candidate. Let us be crystal clear: America is a staunchly prochoice nation — 72% of Americans support the right to reproductive freedom. With Donald Trump in the White House and Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, the threat of repealing Roe is very real. That’s why we must elect, support and defend Delegate Kathy Tran and prochoice champions like her across the nation.
"Delegate Tran introduced a bill to repeal medically unnecessary barriers to reproductive healthcare in Virginia, and she should be applauded for her leadership. Let’s be real: the overly-funded, outsized voice of the antichoice movement is generating a vicious and misleading smear campaign against prochoice legislation that is medically sound and aligned with the values of the country. This extreme movement is generating dangerous, sensationalized misinformation about medical decisions that occur between a pregnant person and their doctor. This attack against Tran and other prochoice champions is clearly led by a conservative antichoice minority that aims to control people’s bodies.
Throughout any pregnancy, a pregnant person must be able to make health decisions with their doctor that is best for their circumstances without interference from politicians. The medical scenarios currently being sensationalized by this antichoice minority are inaccurate and untrue. Politicians cannot and must not have legal and legislative jurisdiction over any pregnancy. Period.
People must have reproductive freedom in this country. We will not be intimidated and we will not back down.”
